Welcome

Chris Whewell, US Patent Agent # 37,469
Registered since October 1993
Master's Degree in Technology Commercialization, Univ. of Texas  2006 (honors)
Over 100 US Patents written and successfully prosecuted
Eight years patent experience with a $ 10B global corporation
Foreign patenting experience

I believe that the vast majority of patent attorneys achieve an undergraduate degree in a science, and then go on to law school and pass the patent bar prior to working in the patent field.  I came into this field a little differently, having invented a circuitboard process that was patented by my employer (US 5,017,271).  At that time I perceived many inefficiencies in the system I had experienced, which inspired me to become registered to practice before the USPTO in patent cases in 1993.  After working in-house as top patent prosecutor for a global firm, I chose to pursue a Master's degree in the field of commercializing new technologies.  I've helped scores of inventors patent their inventions.

So if you're looking for someone to help you with a patent-related matter and want to consider dealing with someone who entered this field from the inventor's perspective, I may be a good candidate for your consideration.

Clients include:

  1. individual inventors;

  2. small companies;

  3. medium-sized companies; and

  4. law firms.

Call me today to see what I can do for you, and why I am more personalized and responsive than most others.  Most of my work involves searching prior art and writing and filing patents.  I've been known to locate prior art that invalidates patents of others.   If you have all of your data and information, we may be able to get your case on file in two weeks.   Possibly a week.  Maybe even the same day.

I also have successful experience in persuading others to cull existing dockets, including consensus-building for IP-related decisions.  With all pertinent information, the decisions aren't that tough to make.  For new clients we can do this up-front, which may lead you to not want to bother try patenting what it is you propose.  My experience will probably make me ask you business-related questions you might not hear elsewhere.

No fancy website, just good rates and efficient turn-arounds.  I'm expert in chemical practice, have done quite a lot of work in the mechanical area, and substantial work in semi-conductor and business methods areas.   I've done a few consumer products as well.

If you're about to file a patent, consider a fresh view by me on the spec before you file it.

SIMPLE INVENTION ?  What could be simpler than a funnel and a tube connected ?  Click here to download a spec I wrote, then contact me to discuss it briefly.  There is a good lesson in this application.

* completed within two weeks, often quicker.

patent application

If you have a good enough invention that you will make money selling it, others will definitely copy it.  The patent laws were designed to protect inventors by providing a limited monopoly on your invention so that only you can profit from your labors, if you take proper full advantage of the Law.

patent search Consultation
Get a second opinion from us, or discuss strategic options.  Our experience provides a good sounding board and is a strong asset for you.  We can answer any of your patent-related questions.

PROTECT YOURSELF !!!

We believe that you should consult with a professional patent practitioner before making any disclosures of your invention to anyone, to avoid forfeiting or waiving your rights.  I have seen many inventors make mistakes by acts and omissions they made prior to seeking advice.  Don't be in that crowd.  It really is worth the little money you would spend in seeking advice.
